This film celebrates the life and career of Julius Shulman, whose photographs brought modern architecture and progressive architects into American mainstream. Director Eric Bricker will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion. Presented in collaboration with Sacramento Modern and AIA Central Valley.

Love them or hate them, there’s no question that “modern” buildings of the postwar era (1940s to ’60s) transformed downtown, the suburbs, and landscapes throughout our region. Now preservationists need to take a serious look at these resources — too new to be considered “historic” by many, but old enough to be in danger of alteration and replacement — to consider which ones merit protection. Join us at the Crocker on April 7th, where we will discuss this issue with the film director, local designers and preservationists.
