REPORTING LEARNING UNITS

Members can earn learning unit (LU) hours by attending programs offered by AIA/CES registered providers or through self-reporting independent activities.

AIA/CES REGISTERED PROVIDER PROGRAMS

Programs offered by AIA/CES providers, including AIACV, are filed with AIA/CES Records in Oklahoma. Programs offered by AIACV generally provide AIA/CES credit, and the number of units offered will be published in event / program notifications.
AIACV will report earned units for those who have signed in at applicable AIACV events / programs.

SELF REPORTED ACTIVITIES

SELF-DESIGNED ACTIVITY. The learning activity is organized by the member specifically to meet the member's individual needs. A self-designed activity frequently involves more than one type of medium or method such as research, reading, interviewing subject experts, listening to audiotapes, and/or viewing videos. To determine what qualifies for self-reporting, ask yourself the following questions: (a) Is this a planned learning activity? (b) Is this activity intended to be educational or operational? (c) Is this new knowledge for you or are you sharing your knowledge with others? (d) How will you apply this new knowledge to your practice? This method is not acceptable for health, safety, and welfare (HSW) credit. Some state licensing boards will not accept this type of reporting for mandatory continuing education (MCE) requirements. (Recommended minimum of three hours]
. . . or
STRUCTURED SELF-REPORTED PROGRAM. This is a structured activity offered by an organized, third-party, non-CES provider and may qualify for health, safety, and welfare (HSW) credit. Documentation of attendance/participation will usually be required as a supplement when reporting this activity as a state licensure requirement. For members who self-report a structured activity, the AlA is unable to assist in supplying any support documentation that may be required by a state licensing board MCE audit.

Members may select the appropriate format of the learning activity and return a completed AlA Self-Report Form so that the data can be entered accurately into their individual transcripts. Members calculate LU hours for self-reported activities by reporting the number of hours spent in architecture-related learning. Think in terms of billable hours applied to learning.

To be eligible for credit, self-reported activities must be planned, educational, new knowledge for the individual member, and applied toward the practice of architecture. All self-report forms should be sent to the AIA/CES Records at the University of Oklahoma.
