Dustin Littrell, AIA and Curtis Popp announce the merger of their two Sacramento design firms.

It is with great pleasure and excitement that Curtis Popp and Dustin Littrell announce the merger of their two Sacramento design firms.

Curtis Popp and his namesake firm have been practicing residential and commercial design for nearly a decade in the Sacramento region. The firm curtis popp has had its work published nationally and internationally and has won several design awards. Mr. Popp has had the prestigious honor of being selected by his Alma Mater, CCA to represent it at its 100 years exhibit, Alumni at the Centennial. The firm has been a boutique firm specializing in mid to high end residential and specialty commercial interiors.

Dustin Littrell is a California licensed architect and has been practicing residential design as DL DesignLab for the past year. Upon receiving his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kansas State University in 2002, Dustin moved west to Boulder, Colorado for several years before eventually settling in Sacramento in early 2004. Mr. Littrell has been engaged in the local chapter of the AIA (Central Valley) and served as an Associate Director from 2009-2011. There he remains actively involved in public outreach, bridging the gap between design professionals and the general public. Dustin’s specialties include Building Information Modeling (BIM) and digital renderings.

With the arrival of Mr. Littrell, the new firm plans on continuing its high caliber work, but expanding into new arenas of design and architecture. The new moniker for the firm shall be Popp Littrell Architecture + Interiors or PLarch. The images below represent the first project executed by PLarch.

The evolution of the design for The Fruitridge Health and Wellness Collective came about from the collective’s desire to create a space that treated their “product” as the star of the show. They also wanted to have an environment that would change the way people think about dispensaries and the stigmas associated with them. Popp Littrell started by thinking about the cannabis the way one might think about coffee, chocolate, or wine. Marijuana is beginning to have the sort of following and connoisseurship that these other luxury items have, in turn PLarch wanted to create a space that celebrated the plant and its buds. We created a nearly all white backdrop so the green of the clones and buds would stand proud in relief. Another unique quality with this job and many of our jobs is the use of site specific designed furniture. We designed every piece of furniture specifically for this space, and we believe by doing this we’ve created a truly unique experience.

The collective’s existing identity incorporated medical symbolism and two colors associated with medicine, red and white. We played upon these symbols and colors throughout the space, in the custom furniture, shelving, the “ginger-headed” nurse graphic, and through the use of the custom wallpaper. The giant arrow pattern in the wallpaper serve the obvious function of directing people to the front window as well as to the dispensaries “buying room”, but they also add a level of sophistication and whimsy because of their sheer size. The space has a clinical feel, but the wallpaper with its “Where’s Waldo” sized pot leaves sprinkled sparingly throughout keeps the vibe light.
