<p>AIA Central Valley is pleased to host a special exhibition highlighting the history of the Capitol Area Development Authority (CADA) through an exhibition of selected residential apartments and mixed-use projects. In addition to project boards, two short films on the history of CADA will be available for viewing and visitors will be able to watch Leta Wrightsman, former President of Chalk-It-Up, create chalk masterpieces in the AIA Chapter parking lot.</p>
<p><span id="more-2124"></span>The AIACV Gallery is located at 1400 S Street, Suite  100 in Sacramento. The exhibition will be open to the public from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Second Saturday, September 11, 2010.  Light refreshments will be provided and there is no fee to attend.</p>

<p>Join us this summer as we travel to Oroville for a tour of  the Butte College campus, followed by a social /refreshment hour and brief presentation with members of the AIACV Board of Directors.</p>
<p>Butte College is located an hour and ten minutes north of Sacramento, nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The main campus is a designated wildlife refuge and rests on 928 acres. The campus is a leader in sustainability and has recently<br />
announced it will be the first college in the U.S.<br />
to be &#8221;grid positive&#8221; by May 2011.</p>
<p><span id="more-1904"></span></p>
<p>Attendees will learn about many of these projects during a short presentation, and then have the opportunity to walk the campus and see the several first hand, including the new LEED Gold Certified Arts Center and Student Administrative Services Building (up for LEED Gold Certification) along with the Allied Health &amp; Public Services Center and Learning Resource Center.</p>

<p><span id="more-1784"></span>Three examples will be presented with an emphasis on what makes each of these works significant in spite of their relative anonymity. Are buildings any less successful if they are unknown? Do only great buildings get noticed? Is anonymity a bad quality or is it important in defining contrast?<br />
Our open forum discussion is intended to examine the importance of design in those structures that often are overlooked and unnoticed in the world of architecture.</p>

<p>With over 400 photos, this slide show demonstrates how ecovillages  and sustainable communities worldwide integrate ecological, economic,  and social/cultural/spiritual sustainability, through: permaculture design,<span id="more-1953"></span> international peace activism, natural building, service to populations in need, renewable energy/off-grid power, local currencies, alternative technology, on-site cottage industries, sustainable agriculture, participatory decision-making, and earth-restoration projects.</p>
<p>Additionally, it will cover:<strong> WHY</strong> people are devoted to developing ecological settlements, <strong>HOW</strong> ecovillages are beneficially influencing the wider culture, and <strong>HOW</strong> ecovillages will probably affect patterns of human settlement in the near future.</p>
