Boqueria Open Forum ~ June 28th

Submitted by Ian Merker, Assoc. AIA  AIACV Associate Director

The Boqueria concept is ambitiously named after the world famous public market in Barcelona.

The public market is an ancient aspect of human commerce that can be found in all parts of the world.  Some of the greatest markets of the world like Les Halles of Paris and the Souk of Marrakech have left a mark on the cities they inhabit(ed), not only for their architectural prowess but their potential for economic growth.
One of the most successful examples of a public market on the west coast is Seattle’s Pike Place.  It has landmark presence and is significant moneymaker.  The Boqueria is being presented as part of a K Street redevelopment concept by Rubicon Partners.  Mr. Tuohy and this alliance are confident that the Boqueria will be a great advancement for Sacramento.  Consider attending the open forum and share your thoughts on how a successful new market could be created.

  1. This would be a wonderful addition to Sacramento. It’s embracing of the agricultural focus of our region, an notion than is often disregards. Many successful cities have something similar…we do not.

a great notion, and good point by Dustin. One of the largest strengths of this region is our proximity to some of the most importants agricultural lands in the world. Yet that is something that this region has really lacked in celebrating or leveraging in urban and social settings.
